The pigmented life of Elitis
As the weather warms up, so do the weaves of Elitis. For its new collection, the fabric and wallpaper publisher and expert in material effects pays a vibrant and cheerful tribute to Mexico.
Pigments take centre stage, drawing their brilliance from the nature, art and architecture of Mexico City. The modernist hues of Luis Barragán’s masterpieces, the flamboyant colours of Frida Kahlo’s Coyoacán neighbourhood, whose walls are dotted with bougainvillea, and the graphic prints and ethnic motifs of pre-Hispanic culture are all here.
These pigmented patinas are met with reinvented textiles such as paper collages, 3D stripes or embossed vinyl. Nourished by handmade aspects, these skills give short shrift to ancient gestures, disorienting the interiors with new magnetism, eclectic but authentic.
