Casa Loma Beach Hotel
In Laguna Beach, California, the light is soft, the air carries a hint of salt, and the sand feels almost powdery underfoot. Perched just above the lifeguard station, the former Inn Laguna Beach has been reimagined as Casa Loma Beach Hotel. The boutique-hôtel captures a distinct vision of the Californian retreat: oceanfront, quietly bohemian, thoughtfully designed, and deeply rooted in the city’s artistic legacy, a place long known as a sanctuary for artists, surfers, and free spirits.
This dual identity, layered with subtle Mallorcan influences, was shaped by California-based design studio Electric Bowery in collaboration with branding agency LAND. The interiors draw directly from the coastal landscape and the atmosphere of Spanish inns. Spaces unfold in shades of sand, clay, and sea green, while soft, curved lines echo the movement of waves and the erosion of ocean-carved cliffs. Guest rooms are spacious and light-filled, featuring contemporary wooden furnishings, handcrafted pieces, and a carefully curated selection of artworks. The heart of the hotel lies outdoors: a pool overlooking the Pacific and a rooftop where guests gather to watch the sun slip into the ocean.
The experience is extended through a series of thoughtful touches. Each day, warm cookies appear in the lobby, like a familiar ritual. In the morning, a Mexican-inspired breakfast nods to the region’s cultural proximity, followed by a bottle of Madre Mezcal left in the room, ready for an impromptu cocktail. Guests may arrive for the views and the design, but they stay for the warmth and the atmosphere.
