Materials

The new sea gold

Sémiophore - Biomatériaux de Hors Studio © Ella Perdereau

The material library – Every month, Goodmoods explores the latest materials, with Plendi by Vinci Construction, which juggles with rare materials and singular know-how for its exceptional achievements.

Designers dive into the ocean in search of the materials of tomorrow. Spirulina, chlorella, nori, agar-agar… These are just some of the little-known seaweed names that promise to disrupt contemporary design. Biodegradable, malleable and edible, algae are the subject of growing interest. These plants with a thousand and one virtues are now used as dyes and raw materials by designers, textile manufacturers and producers of bioplastics who see this marine material as a new blue gold. In this same marine momentum, sediments (mud and sludge), shellfish scraps and shellfish are not left out and are transformed into glass, neo-concrete or unique ceramics. Demonstration.
