Best of Stockholm Design Week 2023
Design Weeks come and go, and they are never the same. After Paris, it’s time for Stockholm. The Stockholm Design Week, the world’s leading event for Scandinavian design organised by the Stockholm Furniture Fair, has just ended and reinforced its presence at the forefront of innovative, committed and vibrant design.
From 6 to 12 February, galleries (KIOSKEN), designers (Erik Bratsberg, Folkform, Massproductions, Note Design), publishers (FRAMA) and curators (Hanna Nova Beatrice) took over the Swedish capital to reveal their new products or unveil their offbeat selections.
From historic restaurants to emblematic museums and enigmatic buildings such as the Älvsjö Gård manor house, the city’s new cultural hub, the four corners of Stockholm have become a meeting point for art, design and lifestyle. Here are seven of GOODMOODS’ favourites.

The Norwegian-based multidisciplinary gallery KIOSKEN presented the colourful and cheerful worlds of its four founders - curator Daniela Ramos Arias (artfolk), clothing designer Siv Støldal, graphic designer Ann-Kristin Stølan (Pamflett) and interior designer Stine Aas - in the heart of the Älvsjö Gård manor house, Stockholm's new design and contemporary art centre. In this historic 17th century building, the exhibition featured objects by Ali Gallefoss and paintings by Anine Aasen, furniture by Stine Aas in collaboration with Tekla Evelina Severin, pieces by Studio Sandland, as well as clothing by Siv Støldal and Waste Yarn Project...

Folkform x Svenskt Tenn collection

Named Designer of the Year Award 2023, design studio Folkform celebrated traditional pleating techniques in its new Pleated for Frank lighting collection, made for publisher Svenskt Tenn with its linen fabric. Launched during Stockholm Design Week, the series of table lamps and lampshades re-appropriate the iconic motifs of Josef Frank, one of the founders of modern Swedish design, created in the 1930s for home.

The New Narratives exhibition at Älvsjö Gård

Also at Älvsjö Gård Manor, the New Narratives exhibition, organised by Hanna Nova Beatrice/Stockholm Furniture Fair, featured the work of contemporary designers based in Sweden who challenge the image of Swedish design. Among them: Axel Wannberg, David Ericsson, David Taylor, Emanuele Stamuli, Erik Bratsberg, Fredrik Paulsen, Hanna Hansdotter, Lab La Bla, Mattias Sellden, Magniberg, MattsonMarnell, Simon Klenell and Folkform (Designer of the Year Award 2023).

Imagined last year by Stockholm-based designer Erik Bratsberg, Persona is a new gourmet restaurant in Östermalm that blurs the boundaries between design, art and lifestyle. During the Stockholm Furniture Fair, the address was transformed into a hybrid gallery, featuring works by Scandinavian artists such as Josefin Zachrisson, Edie Chambers from Ateme Ceramics, Sofia Tufvasson and Anna Christina Elisabeth, as well as David Ericsson's new seating for Verk and pieces by Erik Bratsberg himself.

Exhibition SCULPTURES FROM THE FACTORY by Massproduction
To highlight the playful design process of Chris Martin's 4PM and Self Build chairs for Massproductions (Furniture of the Year Award 2023), the publisher has organised an interactive exhibition entitled SCULPTURES FROM THE FACTORY at the Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum in conjunction with Stockholm Design Week. The aim? To give visitors the opportunity to build their own deckchair under supervision and to take it home with them.

The BAU Collection by Note Design Studio

Stockholm-based design studio Note wanted to get rid of boring and banal office chairs. Now it's done. At Stockholm Design Week, the design firm unveiled a modular system for publisher Lammhults with soft, surreal lines. Comprising six units - Easy Chair Straight, Easy Chair Closed, Easy Chair Open, Pouf Straight, Pouf Closed and Pouf Open - it introduces a new, relaxed comfort.

The FRAMA Bracket Collection

In a historic restaurant in Stockholm's city centre, Konstnärshuset, Danish studio FRAMA invited visitors to Stockholm Furniture Fair to see its latest furniture collection, designed in collaboration with Danish duo Frederik Gustav. Inspired by traditional carpentry, Bracket transforms a structural element into a perfectly simple aesthetic object.
