A few weeks after Milan Design Week, it’s time for American design to take center stage, from the East Coast (New York Design Week) to the West Coast (DESIGN MIAMI.LA). Proving that the Big Apple is a major player, from May 16 to 23, creatives from around the world have converged on the city that never sleeps to celebrate the decorative arts. Events are helded in showrooms, studios, and galleries in Manhattan and Brooklyn for the NYCxDESIGN 2024 festival, and at Hudson Yards for the ICFF fair.

Far from ostentatious bling, the exhibitions and collections presented, showcase an American design scene that is sharper and more relevant than ever. This year’s theme, « Design is All Around Us, » emphasizes history, community, inclusivity, and interdisciplinarity.

For instance, mysticism was invoked by Lee Broom and Lindsey Adelman in their lighting collections; the city’s colonial past was reincarnated by Floris Wubben and the « BRICK » series at The Future Perfect; and the architectural work of Eileen Gray was resurrected at Egg Collective. Here are the editorial team’s 10 highlights.
