Les Roches Rouges Hotel

© Benoit Linero

Azure blue as far as the eye can see. The gaze drifts toward infinity. In the distance, the Estérel mountains glow in vivid yellow and burnt ochre. At Les Roches Rouges hotel, the view is second to none.

Built in the 1950s in the quintessential French Riviera style, this clifftop retreat nestled between pine trees and tamarisks was brought back to life in 2017 by the Festen duo. Today, the modernist icon and its extensions are being reinterpreted by the A.S.L studio.

Everything here tells a Mediterranean story. Indoors, the palette moves between sienna, soft ochre, sandy beige, and pristine white. The materials evoke the South and warm sand: blond oak, terracotta, artisanal ceramics. White moucharabiehs filter the light through the walls. Outdoors, the mood shifts to something bolder—with striped parasols and vibrant yellow textiles nodding to the carefree era of Brigitte Bardot.

The carefully sourced furniture plays with eras: rattan seating from the 60s and 70s, lounge chairs in the spirit of René Gabriel, coffee tables by Roger Capron, lamps in sandstone or ceramic, Catalan chairs by Joaquim Belsa Aldea. Art is everywhere: photographs by Antoine Ricardou, ceramics by Juliette de Ferluc and Hiromi, gouache paintings by Géraldine Roussel—all forging a direct link with the landscape. Even the books have been hand-picked around themes that inspired the place. A new chapter begins on the Mediterranean.
