The Salone del Mobile of

DIMORESTUDIO

Fairs

15 January 2021

Once again the heart of the Salone del Mobile in Milan will have fought for the DimoreStudio’s scenographies and creations! After having attracted more than 100,000 visitors in 2018 to their flat / gallery nestled in a Milanese palace, this year the Italian-American duo will be taking over several venues in the Lombard capital.

The first stop was in the mythical flat in via Solferino, where a new edition of iconic pieces by Gabriella Crespi was presented. To the sound of a bewitching playlist, the Italian designer’s creations were reinterpreted and staged in sand dunes and solar carmine monochromes.

The installations Interstellar and Progetto Tessuti (textiles) housed DimoreMilano’s creations. In a futuristic staging worthy of a Kubrick film, fashion and design references, classic and 70s, were intermingled in a decadent arty atmosphere.

Finally, in a jewel of the Italian Renaissance, the studio unveiled a surprise collection of 14 creations for Dior Maison. References to avant-garde art and an explosive combination of materials (gold, bronze, rattan and plexis) were on the programme.

A Design Week that will therefore have been marked by a unique mix of genres and an ability to juggle between projects without ever denying the DimoreStudio stamp. Deciphered in pictures by Britt Moran.

Your colour palette for 2019?

« At Cinema Arti we started with black, white and notes of blue. In the gallery we worked more with rusty tones. »

The genesis of the « Visioni presentation » in your gallery?

« We have long loved Gabriella Crespi’s work and have sought to meet her daughter Elisabeth. When we raised the idea of reediting and reinterpreting her pieces, she very generously allowed us to do so ».

The concept?

« The idea was to present his mythical pieces but also to reinterpret some of them in our own way. We didn’t want to touch the essence of his design, and above all there wasn’t much to change. It was already beautiful. We had a selection of colours or combinations of metals that we wanted to use. So, finally some of the original pieces were mixed with re-editions seen and reviewed à la Dimore and the combination was quite joyful ».

Preferred subjects

by Gabriella Crespi?

« She has worked on various and varied collections: some more with brass, iron and copper and others just as mythical with bamboo. »

A woman who has marked your career?

« For Emiliano as for me, our mothers. Gabriella Crespi is next on the list! »

What’s behind the Interstellar project?

« At Cinéma Arti, we present our own collection of pieces. Everything is new. Very different. Here we have clearly been inspired by the 1970s. The colours are darker and more neutral: brown, grey, black, navy blue. We have especially played with unexpected combinations of materials: backlit podium, brushed brass, steel, fur or velvet ».

« As you can see, we had a lot of fun, we do what I think we want when we create, we disconnect from the world for some time. We’re lucky to be very free. »

A fetish colour?

« We painted our desks in a rather indescribable Bubble Gum rose! It’s a rather unlikely colour but strangely enough it works very well. And when people come in they talk to us about it and end up complimenting us. »

An exciting and inspiring time?

« Complicated to choose just one decade. I would say from 1930 to 1980: it’s such a special era. Vast programme! »
