Ignancia Guest House

Ignacia Guest House

You feel right at home here. And you can, because this Mexico City residence has been a warm refuge since 1913. The place is named after Ignacia, the housekeeper who lived here from its construction and for over 70 years.

In 2017, the private home became a guesthouse. Everything changed, and yet the essence of the place remains intact. The architects from Factor Eficiencia and decorator Andrés Gutiérrez through his company A-G oversaw the transformation. The original layout, unchanged since 1913, now coexists with a modern extension housing four suites connected by a glass corridor. The historic house and this new space are joined by the patio, a lively meeting place where visitors come together.

The most striking feature of this house is undoubtedly its color. The pink of the living room is irresistibly soft, while each room has its own distinct hue. The atmosphere is joyful, punctuated with works of art and artisanal pieces. The creations of the new wave of designers (Axoque Estudio, Joyful Objects, David Pompa) sit alongside iconic names, with vintage furniture and lighting by Eileen Gray, Eero Saarinen, and Serge Mouille.

While the house has a slight Parisian flair with its Haussmann-style moldings, Andrés Gutiérrez designed the space with a Mexican spirit, playing with graphic shapes—circles and perforations—inspired by pre-Hispanic iconography. The entire space is crafted with traditional local materials. It’s the meeting of these two contrasting worlds that makes Ignacia Guesthouse such a unique place.
