Zoe Boon, stylist & fondeur of Zoe In The Afternoon

Once upon a time, designers (Porky Hefer, Studiopepe, Aaron Poritz), architects (Javier Senosiain, Charles Harker) and fashion designers (Alexander McQueen, JW Anderson) appropriated the codes of a marvellous nature and brought their very contemporary sensibility to bear on a fairy tale fantasy.

Vernacular houses, mushroom-like furniture, budding scenographies… In this theme, bucolic and innocent inspirations took over from the anxiety-inducing everyday life, and creation returned to its roots to reinvent a more dreamlike world. Enchanted Moodboard.

Journey to Middle-earth. Tolkien’s imaginary land seems to inspire real-life decorators and designers. The small vernacular dwellings of the Hobbits and all the materials derived from the earth that compose them – greenery, stones, brambles, roots, bark – gently invade the furniture and decoration.

Fashion is also immersed in an enchanting world. The touching animals of Perrault’s fairy tales become the main characters in the campaigns of JW Anderson x Moncler or Gucci. At Moschino and Alexander McQueen, the colours of clothes and accessories are those of a fantastic forest: juicy oranges, fir greens, succulent reds…

Porsche at Milan Design Week

Design Week was in Wonderland last week. For the 2022 edition of the Mobile show, editors, designers and big houses settled in Milan in luxuriant settings as if out of a dream or a fairy tale. Examples: a Garden of Eden by Studiopepe for mohd, and a labyrinthine misty greenhouse designed by Studio Mary Lennox for Porsche.

MAGIC CHAMPIONS

Glossier – Seattle

The new fad for creative people? Mushrooms. Lighting fixtures, candy boxes, poufs, rugs… ceramics, papier-mâché, wool, blown glass… They grow in all colours and shapes in the latest collections, bringing a good dose of playfulness to the home.

The flagship that is worth a visit: Glossier Seattle, which has a mound of foam with artificial mushrooms in the middle of its cosmetics stands.

Organic psychedelism

The organic architecture and the « prairie style » that fit so well with Tolkien’s stories are actually due to architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and his Cascade house (1930), Charles Harker and his Bloomhouse (1984), Javier Senosiain and his Casa Organica (1985).

Aesthetics « in communion with nature » which today inspire designers and creators in their artistic approach. This is the case of Porky Hefer or Aaron Poritz who draw on the strange and psychedelic forms and materials of nature to create.
