With the winter vacations just a few weeks away, the office is putting its foot down. While times have changed radically since the advent of the first open spaces – as evidenced by the spread of telecommuting – the formal, functional lexicon of 90s working is back with a vengeance. While men’s and women’s wardrobes incorporate corporate references that exalt the suit and tie, advertising campaigns plunge into the world of business.

The tumult of everyday working life is celebrated through an aesthetic of organized disorder that pushes the envelope, almost sublimating burn-out. Folders, pens, sheets and post-its tumble about. In terms of architecture, the famous “cubicles” – those partitioned spaces omnipresent in American skyscrapers of the 90s – decorated with the first office technologies (landline telephone, fax, Minitel), inspire clean, functional and efficient lines. Reminiscent of an era of profound upheaval, in moodboard.
